Awards for Graduating Students
In addition to the awards given to alumni, the
College of Nursing Alumni Association gives four awards to graduates at pinning and hooding
ceremonies. Faculty committees make selections for the following
awards.
Carolyn A. Williams Award
- Ph.D. graduating class
- GPA 3.5 or greater
- Demonstrated support of College of
Nursing activities (in addition to course requirements)
- Demonstrated scholarly activity during
tenure at the College, which may include national, regional,
local educational presentations, publications, grant funding
for research, demonstrated activity in professional nursing
organizations
- Demonstration of mentoring behavior to
nursing students in the master's or bachelor's programs
A nominating letter from one faculty member from
the Ph.D. faculty should include references to all of the above
required criteria. A letter of support (does not need to
reference all criteria) from at least one additional faculty
member of the College must be included.
Sebastian/Stanhope Award
- D.N.P. graduating class
- GPA 3.5 or greater
- Demonstrated support of College of
Nursing activities (in addition to course requirements)
- Demonstrated scholarly activity during
tenure at the College, which may include national, regional,
local educational presentations, publications, grant funding
for research, demonstrated activity in professional nursing
organizations
- Demonstration of mentoring behavior to
nursing students in the master's or bachelor's programs

the D.N.P. program should include references to all of the above
required criteria. A letter of support (does not need to
reference all criteria) from at least one additional faculty
member of the College must be included.
Presidential Award
- M.S.N. graduating class
- GPA 3.5 or greater
- Demonstrated support of College of
Nursing activities (in addition to course requirements)
- Evidence of support and significant
impact of advanced nursing practice in a clinical,
educational or administrative setting
- Demonstration of mentoring behavior to
nursing students in the bachelor’s program
- Demonstrated involvement in a
professional nursing organization while a student
A nominating letter from one faculty member from
the master’s program should include references to all above
required criteria. A letter of support (does not need to
reference all criteria) from at least one additional faculty
member of the College must be included.
Selection of the recipients of the Carolyn
Williams, Sebastian/Stanhope, and Presidential Awards will be
made by a a faculty award committee appointed by the dean of the
College of Nursing.
Nightingale Award
- B.S.N. graduating class
- GPA 3.5 or greater
- Demonstrated support of College of
Nursing activities (in addition to course requirements)
- Evidence of qualities of scholarly
activity, mentoring behavior, and community service while a
student at the College
Selection of the Nightingale Award recipient
will be made by the Undergraduate Program Coordinators.
