Spanish for the Health Care
Provider: Beginning and Intermediate
These 15 week courses teach beginning
or intermediate Spanish language skills. Meet once per week.
Beginning Course: Next available class will begin on Wednesday
September 4, and will meet from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday
through December 18, 2002.
Intermediate Course: Next available class will begin on Thursday
September 5, and will meet from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. each Thursday
through December 19, 2002.
Class sizes limited to 15
for Beginning Course and 10 for Intermediate Course..
** Applications may be picked up in the Learning Center and be
submitted no later than August 16, 2002. Selection will be based
on the need to use the language skills in the workplace.
Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the course by August 23,
2002.

UK Chandler Medical Center employees that covers the Corporate Compliance program of
the Medical Center. Employees must attend within the 90-day probationary
period. Beginning in Jan. 2002, CC will be part of Medical Center
Orientation.

All Hospital, PPD, and Security employees are expected to
attend this four hour session desired to welcome new employees and to introduce them
to the
Mission and expectations of
working at the University of Kentucky hospital.

University Orientation: All employees must attend this four hour
session within 30 days of date of hire. The session is conducted by
Human Resource Development and is held every Monday (except holidays)

Establishing a Climate of Trust
This all-day course is open to all
leadership staff of the Medical Center. It explores behaviors in
relationships that either build or destroy trust.

Crisis Intervention
This one-day course gives detailed
information concerning prevention and intervention strategies for
violent behavior. There is a $12 fee to cover the cost of the workbook
that may be paid by the department. Please check with your supervisor.

New
Supervisor Orientation
-
All newly hired supervisors,
managers, directors, and administrators are required to complete all
requirements for any newly hired staff person.
-
In addition, all supervisors,
managers, directors, and administrators within the University are
required within 90 days of hire or promotion to attend SuperVision,
a week-long program presented by Human Resources Development.
-
All newly hired or promoted
supervisors, managers, directors, and administrators within the
Hospital are required to complete the HealthCare
Supervision series between the 3rd and 12th month of assuming the
supervisory position in the hospital.
Healthcare
SuperVision
Healthcare SuperVision is the
educational component of an orientation program designed for newly hired
or promoted hospital supervisors, managers, directors, or
administrators. The entire orientation program consists of four
components.

Leadership Orientation
Competencies
The direct supervisor of the new leader, will give the new supervisor
a copy of the Leadership Orientation Competency form either during the
interviewing process or immediately upon hire or promotion.
The new leader will use the form to do a self-assessment of their
knowledge-base at hire.
The form will be a guide for learning the new leader.

Preceptorship
The direct supervisor of the new
leader will assign a Preceptor to the newly hired or promoted leader.
The Preceptor should be on the same
level of leadership as the new leader (if possible), and should work in
the same service area.
The Preceptor agrees to work with
the new leader for the first 6 months.
The Preceptor is responsible for
helping the new leader in 3 specific areas:
Socialization into the environment
of the hospital and the specific work area.
Area-specific education on specific
skills and knowledge needed by the new leader. The competency form
will serve as a guide.
Assisting the direct supervisor in
evaluating the abilities of the new leader to meet the identified
competencies.
