UKHC Orientation: All UKHealthCare employees are required to attend this 1 1/2 day long orientation within 30 days of hire.  The session begins with the registration process at 1:15pm.  The official training session will begin at 1:30pm.  UKHealthCare Orientation is designed to welcome new employees and provide an overview of the UKHealthCare Mission, Vision and Values.  Health Care orientation is tailored to fulfilled basic new employee staff  education requirements established by the Joint Commission.  Drinks will be provided on Monday, breakfast and lunch will be provided on Tuesday.  

Supervisors must register their new employees online by 12:00 pm on the Thursday prior to Orientation.  Click here to see scheduled dates for Orientation  Orientation Schedule and Registration form

       Dates/Times: Every other Monday 1:30-5:00 pm and Tuesday 8:00-4:30 pm

 Parking:  Employees will be able to park at the Boone Center during UKHealthCare Orientation. However, if the new employee has already obtained an E permit, we advise they park in an appropriate E parking lot garage. Space at the Boone Center is limited. E parking is available nearby at the Rose Street Parking Structure (#2) and  behind the W. T. Young Library.

University Orientation: All University of Kentucky employees are required to attend University New Employee Orientation.  It is highly recommended that this orientation be attended on the employee's first day on the job.  The session begins with the registration process at 7:45.  The official training sessions will be 8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  During this session, you will receive information pertaining to your benefits, University policies, and an overview of campus.

Parking:   Employees will be able to park at the Boone Center during Orientation.  At the end of orientation employees will be required to move their car to another location.

HIPAA Education

Federal regulations of the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act require the basic training in the requirements of this act for all employees, students, volunteers, and other associates of the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

All staff can access HIPAA web-based training modules (WBT) on the LSO system.   See The Learning Center - Home for  Enrollment Instructions.  All new Hospital employees should complete the HIPAA - New Hire Training within their first ninety (90) days of employment (per Hospital Policy).

HIPAA Education is organized according to an employee's position within the Medical Center.  Refer to your department manager to determine the level of training required for each employee.

HIPAA New Hire Training -- required general training for all staff employed in UKHealthCare 
Content Topics: Definition of HIPAA, Components and Regulations of HIPAA, Consequences of Non-Compliance and Reporting Problems

HIPAA Education - Level Two:  General for Clinical Faculty and Staff  --  more detailed general training for most staff that are employed in UKHealthCare.
Content Topics:  Privacy Notice, Restrictions on Uses and Disclosures, Minimum Necessary Releases of Health Information, Patient's Right to Request Information, Amendment of Records, Safeguards Review

HIPAA Education - Level Two: Basic Release of Information -- Covers releases of patient information that are either written or verbal.  These include releases for Treatment, Payment, and Operations and other releases allowed or required by law.
Content Topics:  Releases Requiring Patient Authorization, Photo and Media Releases, Procedures for TPO Releases, Releases for Treatment, Releases for Payment, Releases for Operations, Other Releases Not Requiring Patient Authorization, Accounting Disclosures

HIPAA Education - Advanced Release of Information -- Covers Requirements for releases that do require a written authorization.  There are many specific regulations regarding these releases.
Content Topics:  Timeframes related to Releases, Required elements in an Authorization, Who can sign an Authorization, How to Process court orders and subpoenas, Fees that can be charged for copying records, how to process requests for letters or forms to be completed by MD, Procedures for third party chart reviews, How to facilitate a request for amendment

HIPAA Education - Level Two:  Managers and Supervisors -- Covers additional items that  supervisors/managers are expected to know in order to determine applicable training for their staff and to hold their staff accountable
Content Topics:  Available Training Modules, Procedures in hiring and terminating employees, Computer password and form requirements, Business Associate Agreements, Employee Sanctions

Spanish for the Health Care Provider: Beginning and Intermediate

These 15 week courses teach beginning or intermediate Spanish language skills. Classes meet
once per week.  The class application form should be completed and submitted to the Learning Center by no later than
August 26, 2011.  Applications may be picked up in the Learning Center, Room H31 in the basement of the hospital, or you can click on the link to print a copy of the form (pdf format).  Application Form  - Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the course by (to be determined).

Corporate Compliance

All employees of the UKHealthCare  must receive education concerning the Corporate Compliance program of the within their 90-day probationary period. This information should be obtained through completion of the WBT "Corporate Compliance".  If you have any other questions, please contact the Corporate Compliance Office at 323-9817.

Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention

This course is required for certain staff who work in the Emergency Department, Psychiatric Unit, and Security.  There are eight-hour certification courses and four-hour re-certification courses offered periodically throughout the year.  Registration is made by your supervisor who will contact  Nursing Staff Development at 257-1658.

   Leadership/Training Resource Library 

The Learning Center has many resources (books, videos, audiotapes, etc.) that are available for check out.  Through this newly developed Resource Library employees (at all levels) are able to borrow materials on leadership, customer service, training and much, much more.  The Library is housed in H31a, but you don't have to come down to the basement to see what we have!  Simply click on this link:  Leadership/Training Resource Library and take a look.  The list can be sorted by topic or title and you can tell at a glance whether an item is currently available or checked out.  If you see an item you are interested in, and it is available, just come visit us in the Learning Center and we'd be glad to check it out for you.  The link to the Leadership/Training Resource Library can be found on both the Careweb and our website.  Visit us soon!
