Researcher Profile:

Chemyong (Jay) Ko, Ph.D.

Associate Professor
Center of Excellence in Reproductive Sciences
Division of Clinical and Reproductive Laboratory Science

Principal Interest

Dr. Ko’s research objective is to establish the best model of ovarian follicle rupture, which will best explain the roles of individual genes involved in the ovulatory process and help us in developing the best strategies to overcome infertility problems as well as in designing better and safer contraceptives. The key to the success in developing the model is to find important but still unidentified ovulation-related genes and to define their roles in the ovary. Various molecular approaches such as differential mRNA display, subtraction cloning, DNA microarray and transgenic animals are used.

Dr. Ko earned his Ph.D. from Seoul National University in 1998, and served as postdoctoral fellow at the University of Kentucky from 1998 to 2002.
