Principal Investigator Profile:

Phillip Bridges, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Div. of Clinical and Reproductive Sciences

Principal Interest

  • Regulation of gene expression and function in the ovary

Phillip Bridges received an M.S. from the University of Hawaii in 1995, a Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 1999 and performed post-doctoral studies at Cornell University until 2005. During that time he studied various aspects of reproductive physiology in domestic species. His graduate studies included investigating the hormonal regulation of placental and luteal function using ewes (UH) and the effect of prostaglandins on maintenance of pregnancy or embryonic mortality using beef cattle (WVU). His postdoctoral studies were aimed at the regulation of follicular steroidogenesis and ovulation using dairy heifers.

Dr. Bridges joined the faculty at the University of Kentucky in January of 2006. Since then, his research has focused on the regulation of gene expression and function in the ovary. Several aspects of ovarian physiology are under study, including the regulation of gene expression at ovulation using rats and the role of gonadotropin-induced immune factors essential for the maintenance of ovarian health using transgenic mice. He is also a member of the Society for the Study of Reproduction.
