Lori Stewart Gonzalez, dean of the
University of
Kentucky College of Health Sciences, has been selected to participate in
the prestigious Leadership Kentucky
program that honors those who possess outstanding leadership abilities,
career accomplishments and volunteer activities. The Leadership Kentucky program began in 1984.
Since that time, the program has sought to bring together a group of leaders
in order to gain insight into the issues facing the state and the people of
the Commonwealth. Graduates of the program bring a fresh and informed
perspective to their communities and companies, serving as important
participants in the unified effort to shape Kentucky’s future. As part of the program, Gonzalez will attend a
series of seven monthly, two-day sessions that will be held throughout the
state. “Many of Kentucky’s greatest leaders have
participated in the program and I am honored to have been selected to walk
in their footsteps,” Gonzalez said. "I look forward to exploring the
multiple facets of our great state and learning from the experience of
others in the program.” Past UK participants of the program include: UK
President Lee T. Todd Jr.; Associate VP for Institutional Equity Terry
Allen; Dr. Emery Wilson, director, Office of Health Research and
Development, UK College of Medicine; Associate VP for External Affairs Tom
Harris; General Council Barbara Jones; Marc Matthews, office of the
treasurer; Chris Frost, professor, College of Law; and several others. Gonzalez and other Leadership Kentucky
participants are chosen for the program based on proven and potential
leadership abilities, civic activity, concern for the community, volunteer
leadership and potential to help build a greater Kentucky. Gonzalez has been dean of the College of Health
Sciences since 2005. She is a native of Kentucky and an alumna of UK,
receiving her bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and audiology with high
distinction in 1979. Gonzalez received a master’s degree in
communication disorders from Eastern Kentucky University in 1981 and her
doctoral degree in communication disorders from the University of Florida in
1989. ### In striving to become a Top 20 public research
institution, the University of Kentucky is a catalyst for a new Commonwealth
– a Kentucky that is healthier, better educated, and positioned to compete
