UK Medical Campus Now Tobacco Free

The entire UK medical campus became tobacco free on Thursday.  The newly implemented policy prohibits the use of tobacco (cigarettes, chew, pipes, cigars, snuff, etc.) in the area occupied by UK HealthCare facilities and the colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Sciences, Dentistry and Public Health.  This also includes off-campus facilities operated by UK HealthCare.  In addition, more than a dozen other health care providers throughout the region are participating in this effort.

For more information about the new tobacco-free environment at UK HealthCare, please consult UK HealthCare's tobacco-free information Web page or call (859) 257-1000 for information about the policy and tobacco treatment resources. Once on the Web site, you can find maps that illustrate the boundaries of the tobacco-free areas.

Looking for Talent!  Do you have what it takes?

A UK Leadership Revue will take place TODAY in the hospital auditorium from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.  If you need more information, call Michael Bratcher at 3-3913.

Healthy Cooking 101

UK HealthCare is sponsoring “Healthy Cooking 101” with Chef Susie Quick on WLEX-TV.  The show airs every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.

Dr. Maria Boosalis was recruited to help refine and enhance 10 recipes for the show that met dietary standards for people with diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

In addition, the "Wellness Cooking for Special Diets" page on the WLEX-TV Web site is devoted to information on ways to develop healthy eating habits, including links to documents developed by Maria such as “Cooking Staples,” “Dining Out Tips” and synopsis of “Dietary Guidelines for Americans.”
