Geza Bruckner Receives NIH Funding
Congratulations to Geza Bruckner and William Elder for receiving NIH funding for their R21 grant, "CAM Referral and Outcomes: Chronic Low Back Pain in Urban and Rural Primary Care." Geza is serving as the CoPI. Total Estimated Project Funding: $588,143.00 Back to TopSeasonal Flu Vaccine for EmployeesThe seasonal flu vaccine will be available for UK Chandler Medical Center employees in the hospital north lobby.
Note: You must have your ID badge to receive the vaccination. If you have any questions, call Infection Prevention & Control at 3-6337. H1N1The campus is working to educate students, faculty and staff about H1N1 flu in an effort to prevent its spread. The most attention will be given to undergraduate students and the professional programs will need to handle dissemination of information at the local level. There are two documents that you should review: a FAQ for students and another for faculty. Programs should distribute the student FAQ to students enrolled in the programs. Faculty members are urged to be flexible with attendance policies so we can insure that students who have the flu stay home. Administration also asked that faculty members consider having a back up instructor for classes in case a faculty member gets the flu. Faculty are also asked to use a campus alert website that has been set up to report unusual numbers (~10% or more) of class absences and/or anecdotal information (student communication stating they have the flu) to the Office of the Provost: www.uky.edu/UGS/alert/early_alert.html. The College response will include the following:
Related Documents: Excused Absences for Influenza-like IllnessUHS has reversed its policy of not providing verification of excused absences due to the H1N1 situation. Students who are diagnosed by a clinician as having influenza-like illness and are advised to stay home for a minimum of 3-7 days shall be issued an excused absence form (authenticated with a UHS seal). Although absences for other diagnoses may qualify as an excused absence, the UHS will only issue excused absence forms routinely for influenza-like illness. The UHS health provider staff will instruct students to e-mail their instructors immediately, indicating that they have been diagnosed as having influenza-like illness and have been advised to stay home for a minimum of 3-7 days, and then bring their UHS excused absence form to their instructors upon their return to classes.
