Dr. Robert Zwicker, a retired medical physicist from UK Healthcare, has assumed the directorship of the Radiation Sciences Division. Dr. Zwicker has been a part of the RS faculty for many years and will help the program transition from Ralph's leadership to new leadership. Ralph will remain with the program for this year at a 50% assignment. Please stop by the RS offices to welcome Dr. Zwicker. Back to TopAn important message from UK Healthcare regarding the Topping Out Ceremony on September 30thAs you may know, the annual employee picnic this year will be featuring the Topping Out of the new UK Chandler Hospital. This large celebration will include medical campus faculty, staff, students, special guests and community leaders. This ceremony and picnic will disrupt areas around Rose Street at the medical campus as well as limit the use of the Wethington loading dock during the event set-up and tear down. Set up will begin on September 29th and the event will be held on September 30th. The loading dock and Rose Street will be cleared by 8:00 a.m. on October 1st. UK Health Colleges 2nd Annual Blood BattleThe Blood Battle is a friendly competition between health colleges. The competition offers the colleges a friendly interaction with a competitive edge. Also, our future health professionals of tomorrow will be given a chance to help individuals who in need today. Blood donations are needed to meet the demands of our friends and family who need transfusions. In fact, nearly 50% of the products donated to the Kentucky Blood Center are needed to supply the demands of UK Medical Center. The winner is determined by the college that has the highest percentage of donors. The winner will be awarded with a Trophy and bragging rights. Friends and family are also encouraged to donate. Boone Center at the University of Kentucky is opening its doors to everyone on Thursday, Aug. 27. That's right, no membership required as we celebrate with an international flair. From 4:30 until 8 p.m. that evening guests will be invited to sample over 60 beers from around the world while also dining on internationally inspired foods that include chipotle rubbed pork tenderloin, polish and Italian sausages, Louisiana butterflied shrimp — and that is just a sample of menu items.
