Research Study for Children With and Without Voice Problems

Researchers at the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences are conducting a research study to gather data on the vocal fold movement. The goal of this research is to study the vocal fold movement patterns of children and adult voices with a new technology called the high-speed digital imaging. Information from this study will help us better evaluate and treat voice problems in children and adults.

Your child may be able to participate if:

  • they are 5 to 11 years of age;
  • they have normal voice; or
  • have a voice problem.

Study participants will be compensated.

Location: Room 116F, Charles T. Wethington Building

Research Study Volunteers Needed

Researchers at the College of Health Sciences are conducting a study to establish normal performance values for muscle testing of the arms and legs. A new muscle testing device has been developed for use with people who have progressive muscle weakness. Establishing normal performance values will give physical therapists a standard for performance comparison on these muscle tests.

You may be able to participate if you:

  • are 18 years old or older; and
  • have no current physical condition that will limit you from performing isometric testing of the muscles around the shoulder or knee.

If you meet these qualifications for the study, please contact Robert A. (Tony) English, investigator and research coordinator, at (859) 323-1100 ext. 80834 or tenglish@uky. Back to Top

Volunteers Needed for Common Reading Experience

Color of Water Cover

UK has now instituted a Common Reading Experience for its incoming class of fall 2009. All incoming students have been asked to read the book, The Color of Water by James McBride, and there will be group discussions on Tuesday, August 25 from 10-11 a.m. led by discussion leaders (faculty and staff). 360 discussion leaders are needed in total, but only 110 have volunteered so far. This is an opportunity for all those who normally do not come into contact with first year students to interact with a small group in a meaningful conversation.

Details on signing up may be found at the following site: www.uky.edu/CommonReading.
