Judy Page, PhD, has been elected President of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) effective January 1, 2014. This is a national professional organization for speech-language pathologists and audiologists with more than 180,000 members. See full ASHA election results here.

Virginia Valentin, MCMS, PA-C has been elected to serve as President of the Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants. This is a prestigious honor that is a one-year term. She was elected by her peers and plans on a robust agenda for this leadership year which will certainly build on the legislative victories of the 2012-13 year.

Back to Top PAS Student Wins Poster Award at National Conference

Kara Hagen, a student in the Physician Assistant Studies program, was recently given the Outstanding Student Poster Award for the research she presented at the 2013 American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) annual conference in Washington, DC. The poster title is "Breast Cancer Prevalence and Mortality among Kentucky Women defined by Tumor Receptor Subtypes, 2009-2011."

Kara Hagan and Dr. Andrew Wyant investigated the epidemiological differences related to breast cancer subtypes among women diagnosed with breast cancer in Kentucky. Their research study found significant disparities exist related to the progression of breast cancer diagnosis to mortality with the most notable difference seen in the triple-negative breast cancer subtype among women with breast cancer living in the Appalachian and Non-Appalachian regions of Kentucky.

United Way 5k on the Runway

Back to Top Employee Educational Assistance Award

Applications are now being accepted for the University of Kentucky Women’s Forum Employee Educational Assistance Award. The deadline for employee-students enrolled in the summer semesters is May 17 for Summer Session I and June 7 for Summer Session II. 

The awards entail a $250 reimbursement to eligible UK employees to assist with the cost of books and/or other materials, supplies and fees related to their UK coursework, complementing the existing tuition waiver program (Employee Education Program, EEP) for UK employees.

Eligibility requirements include:

·         Applicants must be regular full-time employees (0.75 FTE and greater)

·         Applicants must have submitted an EEP form

·         Applicants must be currently enrolled in UK classes, excluding independent study program courses

·         Previously enrolled students are required to have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better. First-time college enrollees are encouraged to apply.

·         Applicants are required to take all courses for a letter grade unless the course is offered only as pass/fail.

Employees taking classes through EEP at any educational institution aside from the University of Kentucky cannot be considered for this award.

The UK Women’s Forum Educational Assistance Award is a competition in which applications will be evaluated and ranked by committee members. The decisions of the selection committee

UK Women’s Forum Board are ineligible for awards.
