Back to Top Tim Uhl Receives Distinguished Scholar AwardDr. Tim Uhl has received the CHS Distinguished Scholar Award, presented at the annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Luncheon in April. The purpose of the CHS Distinguished Scholar Award is to recognize a faculty member who has made significant and lasting contributions to his or her discipline. The award is intended to serve as recognition for a distinguished body of work that has made an impact on the discipline over time. Faculty Council selected Dr. Uhl as the 2013 recipient because of his exemplary work as a clinician-scientist and scholar. His work has positively influenced the communities of athletic training, physical therapy and orthopedic medicine. Congratulations to Dr. Uhl for receiving this award. Back to Top Mike Cooper Promoted to ColonelProfessor Mike Cooper was recently honored during a Promotion Ceremony at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio for his promotion to Colonel. Back to Top CHS 2013-2014 Educational Enhancement Grants AwardedThe purpose of the Educational
Enhancement Grants is to “provide CHS faculty with resources to support the
development and implementation of innovative and educational initiatives to
improve student learning.” These Grants provide up to $3,000 to conduct
the projects. At the conclusion of the project period, awardees provide a
written report of project outcomes that will be posted on the Academic Affairs
website. The awardees for 2013-2014 are as follows:

“Undergraduate Course in Systems Thinking/Modeling to Improve Healthcare
Delivery” Clinical Nutrition Doctoral student Maja Redzic won first prize in the American Society of Nutrition graduate student poster competition at the Experimental Biology Meeting in Boston, MA. The award was in Epidemiology Research of Vitamins and Minerals, which is under the Society's Vitamins and Minerals Research Interest Section. Dr. Travis Thomas is Maja's PhD mentor. The Inaugural Kentucky Congress on Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), hosted by
KARRN, will take place on Friday, May 10 at the Lexington Convention Center from
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The mission of the event is to hold an unprecedented
one-day meeting to gather individuals with SCI from around the Commonwealth to
discuss the critical issues that are important to them and to draft an agenda to
be used to legislate change in our Commonwealth for people with SCI.

Tuesday, May 21, 2013 Speaker: Pamela Teaster, PhD Back to Top UK Staff Appreciation Day
UK Appreciation Day will be held on Thursday, May 16, at Commonwealth
Stadium. Festivities will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the stadium’s
concourse and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Blue Lot. Activities will include a UK T-shirt giveaway; a
performance from the Dance program; vendor and department prize drawings;
special guest appearances, including Miss UK and Miss Kentucky; tours of the
stadium suites; a carnival; live music; food and more. UK’s own Carl Nathe –
voice of the Wildcats – will emcee the event. Additionally, blue bins will
be available in three locations from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. for non-perishable
food items to be donated to God’s Pantry. |
