The annual CHS Staff Retreat will be held on Monday, March 11 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in CTW 127 (The Commons). All staff are expected to attend. The morning session will be a presentation by Debra Graham titled "Teamwork in a Changing Workplace," and the afternoon activity will be a campus scavenger hunt. Click to see the flier. Back to Top Dr. Jane Kleinert Receives Award

·       Dr. Jane Kleinert received the KSHA-ASHF Clinical Achievement Award at last week’s KY Speech/Language Hearing Association Convention. The Clinical Achievement Award is presented to a speech-language pathologist or audiologist in KY for significant recent accomplishments or contributions to the advancement of knowledge in clinical practice. Kentucky’s recipient becomes the state’s nomination for the American Speech Hearing Foundation National DiCarlo Award presented at the national ASHA convention in November.

Back to Top Dr. Geza Bruckner Named Director
Health Services Education and Research Division

Several years ago we created a new Division of Health Services Education and Research (HSER) that housed the Clinical Leadership and Management undergraduate program. Through the years, the unit became known by the name of the degree program (CLM), and the Division title was largely forgotten. When the Human Health Sciences (HHS) undergraduate program was developed, we proposed that it be housed administratively alongside the CLM program in the HSER Division. 

Dr. Skaff has been the Acting Director of the CLM program for several years, She graciously took on this responsibility while also serving as Clinical Sciences Department Chair. She has been integral to the development and implementation of the new program, managed significant changes in personnel, teaches several courses, recruits, and advises students, and, most recently, actively participated in developing a proposal to provide students with an alternative pathway for entering the CLM program. She also teaches in the HHS program.

Dr. Bruckner was named Acting Director of the HHS program in 2012 and has worked diligently with faculty, staff, and students to provide the present cohort with high quality experiences, and we fully expect to meet our goal of 75 students in the 2013 class.  

In an effort to provide stability for the CLM and HHS programs and to take advantage of the synergies between the two programs, Dr. Bruckner and Dr. Skaff, in her role as Chair, have both agreed that Dr. Bruckner will assume the role of Director of the Health Services Education and Research Division effective March 04, 2013. In this role, his duties will include directing both the HHS and CLM undergraduate degree programs. Dr. Skaff will continue to function as an active member of the CLM program and will contribute to the HHS program, as well.

The Hall of Fame and Student Recognition Dinner will be held on Thursday, March 21st at Baptist Health (formerly Central Baptist Hospital) Education Center. This year CHS has two faculty members being recognized: Dr. Richie Andreatta and Professor Mike Cooper. Let's congratulate them both!

Charles T. Marshall Receives Kingston Award

Dr. Charles T. Marshall has been selected as the recipient of the 2013 College of Health Sciences Kingston Award for Excellence in teaching. Dr. Marshall is Associate Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy and teaches at the Center for Excellence in Rural Health in Hazard and has served the college since 2009. The Kingston Award is the highest award for excellence in teaching given by the College and it is a testament to Dr. Marshall's excellence as an educator in and out of the classroom that he is given it. Please congratulate Dr. Marshall!

CELT Presents Dr. Michael Wesch

The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) is delighted to present Dr. Michael Wesch, a cultural anthropologist and media ecologist at Kansas State University, who will give a talk entitled The End of Wonder in the Age of Whatever, Tuesday, March 19, 12:30 p.m. in the William T.
