Now Accepting 2012-13 Ambassador Applications

The Office of Student Affairs is now accepting online applications for students interested in joining the College of Health Sciences Ambassadors. This is a select group of students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in academics and student leadership. The College of Health Sciences Ambassadors serve the college and assist with student recruitment, speak to community and university groups, plan social, philanthropic and educational activities for peers, and represent the college at receptions and meetings.

To be eligible, students must be formally accepted into their respective program and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Other requirements are noted within the online application.

Nominations for Employee of the Year

Nominations for the 2011-12 Employee of the Year award are now being accepted. Click here for Nomination forms as well as a list of eligible staff members. Please submit nominations to Kristie Bruner (located in CTW 210) no later than Wednesday, April 4^th. All nomination forms must be signed and sealed in an envelope.

This year’s Employee of the Year Luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18^th. Please let me know if you have any questions.

College Internal Due Date for e-IAFs (electronic Internal Approval Forms)

Beginning with applications due on or after April 2, 2012, no proposal shall be submitted to any external funding agency unless a fully executed e-IAF has been received by OSPA at least three (3) business days prior to the sponsor's published deadline. For more information, please see http://www.research.uky.edu/ospa/info/docs/eIAFPolicy_26Jan12.pdf.

The College of Health Sciences is implementing and requesting those submitting a proposal to have the eIAF completed an additional one week in advance before it is due to OSPA. This will allow time for anyone affiliated with the proposal to review and certify the eIAF. Please contact Nan Rice if you have any questions.

Educational Enhancement Grants 2012

Faculty-

The call for Educational Enhancements awards for 2012-2013 is now open. The application can be accessed via the College website at http://www.mc.uky.edu/healthsciences/academic/about.html by selecting “Education Enhancement Grants” and then “Information and Application”.

The committee asks that you please consider the following:

All applications will be considered; however, the committee is especially interested in reviewing proposals that attract new revenue/additional students through distance learning, summer school or winter session.
A Gantt chart is now required so faculty can provide a timeline for completion of project tasks and activities (template under ‘Information and Application’).
In addition to the required written report, recipients will prepare a brief oral report for presentation at a College meeting. This report does not need to be submitted to the ADAA and is meant to showcase project objectives and results, and stimulate additional ideas.

Website Updates Underway

Our temporary web hire has completed a number of updates to the site ranging from fixing links to content updates. Some of these updates include support files, such as images and Word documents. Divisions or areas with published changes include the CHS home page, web pages within physical therapy, research, medical lab sciences, and communication sciences and disorders. Content changes continue to be made and we will keep staff and faculty informed of changes weekly via Footnotes so be sure to check back next week.

In partnership with UK Healthcare Samaritan Physical Therapy Clinic, Samaritan's Touch is a physical therapy clinic led by UK Doctor of PT students. The clinic's website is now live! Click here to check it out.

University Announcements

Announcement from Provost Subbaswamy

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Lynda Brown Wright, Professor of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology, who has filled in as Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs this academic year while Dr. Heidi Anderson was doing double duty, has been named Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs at Georgia State University effective July 1. She is a long-standing, well respected faculty member at UK, and has held multiple leadership roles. Please join me in congratulating her on this important appointment.

This creates a vacancy in the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs position. With my own upcoming departure, and ongoing reorganization discussions, there won’t be any immediate plans to fill the vacancy. Once an interim Provost is named, the status of this position will be revisited.

Renew Your Parking Permit

University of Kentucky Parking & Transportation Services is now accepting employee and retiree parking permit renewal applications for permits that expire March 31, 2012. UK employees are encouraged to renew their permits at www.uky.edu/pts. Employees may also apply for permit renewal via campus mail, by using printable forms found at www.uky.edu/pts or in person at Parking and Transportation Services, 721 Press Avenue (Parking Structure #6). Office hours for permit sales are 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Women's Forum Announces Educational Assistance

University of Kentucky's Women's Forum is offering Educational Assistance Awards. The award will provide $250 reimbursement to eligible UK employees to assist with the cost of books and/or other materials, supplies and fees related to their UK coursework, complementing the existing tuition waiver program for UK employees. Voice Mail Upgrades

University of Kentucky Information Technology (UKIT) is upgrading both main campus and UK HealthCare employee voice mail during spring/summer 2012.

Over the past year, a select group tested Exchange voice mail, which alerts users of voice mail through Outlook email. The voice mail message can be reviewed through an office telephone, computer, cell phone, or other mobile device. In addition, the system provides speech-to-text in the voice mail notification email. This allows users to read voice mail when listening is unavailable.

The Exchange voice mail system also provides users the following features:

· Remotely listening to email being read using text to speech;

· Calling into the system and asking for the system to read your calendar schedule; and

· Calling into the system and creating meetings and writing emails orally.

UKIT will migrate users from the existing WindStream voice mail platform to Exchange voice mail without a charge. To schedule a voice mail upgrade, contact Denise McCarthy at 218-0484.

Women's Club Scholarship

The University of Kentucky Woman’s Club Scholarship was established to provide financial support to non-traditional students. A scholarship covering tuition at the resident rate will be awarded during the 2012-2013 academic year. All applicants who meet the eligibility requirements, as listed on the application, will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee, which will select the recipient according to the following criteria:

Applicants must have a cumulative UK GPA of 3.0 or better, based on a minimum of 12 UK undergraduate credit hours.
Applicants must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.
Applicants must be residents of Kentucky.

· Applicants must be in a degree program at the University of Kentucky as either a full-time or part-time undergraduate student. Preference will be given to female candidates.
