Undergraduate Internship Opportunity

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is offering a ten week research experience for undergraduates. The internship, HS-STEM Summer Internship Program for Undergraduates, offers a $5,000 stipend plus travel expenses. This internship is for students interested in the following areas or research: engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological/life sciences, environmental science, emergency and incident management and social sciences. RSVP for 2012 Spring Kick-Off

The spring 2012 Kick-off and Faculty Council Retreat will be held on Friday, January 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in CTW 127 (the Commons).

The day will begin with presentations from Dr. Hollie Swanson, Chair of Faculty Senate, and Dr. Diane Sobel, Training Director for the UK Counseling Center, around the theme "Successful Transitions." Dr. Swanson will be addressing the topic of surviving and thriving during this time of transition for our University and College and Dr. Sobel will be addressing strategies for faculty and staff to healthfully manage change as individuals.

These presentations will be followed by small group discussions centered on current University issues and initiatives. The goal is for faculty and staff to generate ideas about how best we can contribute to, participate in and benefit from these. The morning sessions will be followed by a catered lunch at noon with large group discussion immediately after and College Meeting 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. All faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to attend. Staff coverage will be secured as needed.

Note: There will be no distance hook-up for the faculty meeting – everyone is invited to come to the UK campus.

Hall of Fame Nominations

We are still accepting Hall of Fame nominations until March 1st. Please send your nominations along with a description of why you chose your nominee/s, to Keturah Taylor at keturah.taylor@uky.edu or 218-0479.

Nominees must exhibit or possess all of the following:

(1)   Have established an outstanding professional record;

(2)   Have demonstrated distinguished service to his/her profession (may include monetary support);

(3)   Have established a personal reputation at either the local, state, national, or international level for outstanding character and community service for a period of time sufficient in length to reflect without reservation great credit and honor upon the University; and

(4)   Be able to provide an outstanding role model for the current College of Health Sciences students.

(5)   Not be in active service as a University employee.

Holiday Hours Announcement

The Office of Sponsored Projects Administration (257-9420), the Proposal Development Office (257-2861), the Office of Research Integrity–IRB & IACUC– (257-9428), and the Survey Research Center (257-4684) will be closed Monday, December 26 through Monday, January 2 and will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. If you anticipate a need for services provided by any of these offices during this time, please call the appropriate office(s) as soon as possible so that assistance may be provided before the break.
