They were chosen based on their innocative work in developing and sustaining the use of standardized patients in the Physician Assistant Studies program. This effort has lead to substantial HRSA funding and has gained recognition beyond UK. Tp date, more than 2,500 standardized patient encounters have been completed by PAS students.

The Sarah Bennett Holmes award recognizes two female UK employees for their contributions to issues that affect women at UK and across the commonwealth and who promote the growth and well-being of other women. Annually two women, one faculty and one staff member, are recognized through nominations by their peers. Each award recipient receives $1,000.00 and is announced at a ceremony during a luncheon to honor all of the nominees. The recipient must be a University of Kentucky employee on Thursday, March 10, 2011, the date of the luncheon.

The Sarah Bennett Holmes Award recipients will be announced at the annual award luncheon on Thursday, March 10, 2011, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Frank H. Harris Grand Ballroom of the Student Center. The featured guest speakers for the luncheon are Ms. Christy Burch, B.A. Interim Director, Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Center and Dr. Diane Snow, PhD, Professor of Neuroscience, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, College of Medicine & Faculty Associate, Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center (SCoBIRC). The presentation is titled, "Women Hold Up Half the Sky." All nominees are strongly encouraged to attend the luncheon. Luncheon reservations are $15.00. Tables for eight may be reserved for $120.00. The reservation form is available on the Women's Forum Web-site. Reservations for the luncheon are open until Friday, March 4, 2011.

In addition to this award, there are a variety of other funding options available to support students who want to study abroad. Scholarships are offered by several of our colleges and there is a wide range of national sources (i.e., Boren, Gilman) and destination specific sources (i.e., DAAD for Germany, Bridging Scholarship for Japan, etc). In most cases, UK students continue to receive their financial aid packages while they are abroad. Plus, there are many inexpensive exchange programs available that allow UK students to study abroad for little more than studying here in Lexington.

Students will again have the chance to choose from a myriad of different interest sessions designed to provide information about the Colleges of Health Sciences, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health. In addition, other detailed interest sessions will be offered for students should they decide to attend. Among them: Financing a professional school education, Interviewing, and Other ways to be a competitive applicant. Finally, prospective students will have the opportunity to visit the UK Healthcare Colleges and participate in an open, frank discussion with current professional students about their experiences.

The 4th annual Multicultural Health Careers Open House is open to any interested high school, current undergraduate or graduate student.

Check-in will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the Biological Pharmaceutical Complex (BPC - NEW College of Pharmacy building) with the event beginning promptly at 10 a.m. The event will end by 2:45pm. Due to space capacity, students are ideally limited to 2 guests.
