International Day & Treats

Stop by the Commons today for our International Day activities. While you're there, grab a treat for 50¢, with all proceeds & donations benefiting the 2009 CHS service project.

Education Abroad Opportunities for Students

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Undergraduate and graduate students, CHS faculty and staff are invited to attend this information session to learn about available education abroad activities such as international clinical rotations, the Health Education Course in Morelia, Mexico, Shoulder to Shoulder Ecuador medical mission trips and the faculty-led course on Care for the Elderly in England.

Comparative Health Systems Film and Discussion

12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m.

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to this brown-bag session (drinks and dessert provided) to view and discuss the highly acclaimed Frontline film on Comparative Health Care Systems. Phillip Begg from the University of Wolverhampton will also be here to offer his perspective on health care in England.

Celebrate Allied Health Week: Nov. 1–7

Allied Health Week

In an effort to educate the entire university on allied health professions housed in the College of Health Sciences, and to celebrate National Allied Health Week 2009, student ambassadors from the college will be on hand in the UK Student Center on Tuesday, November 3 and Wednesday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with information and free hot chocolate for the first 400 students. The booth will be set up on the first floor outside the student government office.

2009 Annual Performance Review

It is time for faculty to begin the 2009 Annual Performance Review Process. Information was e-mailed to all faculty earlier in the week.

These documents are also located on the Academic Affairs webpage under the section titled Office of Academic Affairs Faculty/Staff Information, Annual Performance Review.

Documents are due to the Division Directors by November 20th. Please note additional timelines in the APR instructions.

eRA Advisory: CRISP Retired On 10/31/09 – Start Using RePORTER

The CRISP query tool which provides a searchable database of biomedical research projects funded by NIH will be retired Oct. 31, 2009.

For many years, CRISP was one of the most common ways for the public to find information on NIH research programs, returning extensive results on scientific topics. CRISP played an important role in its lifetime and won several awards.

With CRISP's impending retirement, we are glad to offer an exciting replacement in the form of the RePORT Expenditures and Results (RePORTER) tool.

RePORTER is available immediately and offers all the features of CRISP and more. It provides:

New features will be added to RePORTER in several releases throughout fiscal year 2010. We encourage you to start using RePORTER today.

Women Leading Kentucky Scholarship

Each year Women Leading Kentucky awards $1000 – $1500 to several female students around Kentucky. Please get the word out to students to apply online at www.womenleadingky.com. The deadline for student applications is January 31, 2010.

On November 19, UK will join more than 300 other United States colleges and universities with tobacco-free and/or smoke-free policies in place for the entire campus, indoors and out, applying to all campus grounds and parking areas.
