(April 11, 2008) - Dr. Carl Mattacola, Director of Athletic Training and Rehab Ph.D. programs, and Dr. Tim Uhl, recently achieved Fellows status with the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Foundation.  The Fellows program was created to honor NATA's scholars and researchers for their leadership and service to the athletic training profession.  

(March 3, 2008) - Allison (May) Horseman, a native of Lincoln County, Kentucky, has been named the coordinator of public relations and marketing for the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences.  Horseman received her bachelor’s degree in English from Georgetown College in 2002.  Most recently, Horseman worked as the marketing and events coordinator at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia, OH. 

At CHS, Horseman will be responsible for promoting the activities of the college.  She will also be instrumental in developing and implementing marketing strategies for the college and working with the college’s Web site and on fundraising events.

(Nov. 16, 2007) - Dr. Lori Gonzalez, Dean of CHS, became an ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) Fellow which is retained for life and is one of the highest honors a professional organization can bestow on an individual. Becoming a Fellow is awarded by election to an individual who has shown outstanding contribution to the profession that is of national significance.

(Nov. 14, 2007) − The Kentucky Physical Therapy Association (KPTA) has awarded Janice Kuperstein, associate professor in the University of Kentucky's College of Health Science's Division of Physical Therapy, the 2007 Outstanding Physical Therapist award.

The Outstanding Physical Therapist award is given every year to a physical therapist who contributes and participates in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and Kentucky Physical Therapy Association (KPTA), demonstrates clinical, educational and administrative expertise, commits to professional development and continuous learning, is involved in community service and promotion of the profession and supports physical therapy research.  Read more...

(October 4, 2007) - A graduate of CHS's Physical Therapy program has been recognized by the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT). Beth Coon, PT, CHT presented an abstract at the Society's 30th annual meeting that evaluated violinists that suffer from chronic pain. Read more...

New Research Grants Help Kentuckians

Gilson Capiluto, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Division of Communication Disorders, was awarded a National Institute on Aging research grant in the amount of $1,815,812 for a 5-year study on Discourse Processing in Healthy Aging.

Debra Nickell, MBA and Samuel Powdrill, MPhil of the Division of Physicians Assistant Studies was awarded a $328,977 grant by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for their 3-year project entitled Physician Assistant Student Training: Targeted Care for at-risk populations in Kentucky.

Chendil Damodaran, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Division of Clinical and Reproductive Laboratory Sciences was awarded a National Institute on
Complementary and Alternative Medicine in the amount of $1,088,289 for a 3-year study on identifying natural compounds for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer.
