Jane O’Regan Kleinert, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Div. of Communication Disorders
Jane O’Regan Kleinert received her Bachelors degree in Speech and Hearing from Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY and her Master’s of Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1975. She received her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Kentucky in 2005. She holds the Developmental Disabilities Certificate from the UK Human Development Institute as well.
Dr. Kleinert is licensed and certified as a Speech-Language Pathologist with 35 years of experience in service delivery and program administration in the areas of pediatrics and services to persons with severe developmental disabilities.
Scholarly / Research Focus
Dr. Kleinert is the Co-PI for the PREPaRE grant a federal grant to fund CSD, PT and OT students for work with children with disabilities in rural areas and is a consultant to the KY Dept. of Education Low Incidence Initiative for developing communication systems for students with the most significant disabilities. She was the PI for th for the Kentucky Youth Advocacy Project, a $450,000 grant from the Kentucky Council on Developmental Disabilities. Her research focuses on communication programming and learning characteristics of students with significant disabilities who participate in the Alternate Assessment in the public schools, the relationship between communication competence and self-determination for persons with developmental disabilities; intensity levels of service delivery during early intervention for children with developmental disabilities.

Personal
Jane and her husband Harold, who is the Executive Director of the Kentucky’s Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (HDI) also at UK, have three adult children. The Kleinerts have lived in Lexington since 1979.
