Biography

Suzanne Fiscella received a B.A. in Biology from Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY in 1976 and a Master's Degree in North Carolina State University in 1979. She returned to graduate school at the University of Kentucky and received her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2006. Prior to returning to academia, Ms. Fiscella spent years teaching high school and working as an adjunct professor for the Bluegrass Community Technical College. She recently joined the faculty as a lecturer and, shortly after, began working as the associate coordinator for the clinical year. Her interest is on improved communication and health care for geriatric patients. She has programmed systems of safe patient care and continues to work on elder care issues. Ms. Fiscella is also interested in building a top 20 Physician Assistant Program through international and national community commitments of care and service. Her high expectations recognize the student's capacity to continually strive to better themselves for their patients, profession and peers.

Education Focus

Ms. Fiscella coordinates the curriculum and clerkship experiences during the clinical year of the Physician Assistant program. She is the course director for the Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatric Clerkships. She also lectures during the didactic year primarily in Geriatric management and Health Care Literacy. She also has strong interests in physician assistant leadership roles within the state and national levels. She serves on the American Academy of Physician Assistant Quality Care Work Group. She continues to speak publicly on patient education and the new health care reform. She contributes to multiple community organizations involved in improving health care.

Clinical Work

She has gained clinical experience in family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine and immediate/acute care medicine.

Personal

Ms. Fiscella has three children and enjoys travel, reading, skiing and spending time with her family. She is an avid sports fan, especially football.
