Learn About Our New Degree - Human Health Sciences

We’re happy to announce the launch of our newest baccalaureate degree program, Human Health Sciences (HHS). HHS serves as a pre-professional undergraduate degree that provides students with a background in healthcare issues, prepares them to apply to advanced healthcare degree programs at the graduate or professional level, and provides needed prerequisites in the sciences, mathematics and social sciences for professional study.

The HHS program is intended to fill a niche for students who aspire to careers in healthcare. It is intended to prepare graduates to apply for degree programs in dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant studies and physical therapy or to pursue other healthcare careers. The program offers a novel interprofessional education with a broad exposure to healthcare practices, policies and management. William Joseph Meadors

Joseph Meadors is a graduate of the UK College of Health Sciences Physician Assistant Studies program. After receiving his Bachelor of Science from UK in 1996 he went on to earn a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska. After working in private practice from 1996 to 2007, Joseph joined the UK Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, where he has worked ever since. See more ...

 


Meet Interim Dean StewartInterim Dean Sharon Stewart

Dr. Sharon Stewart currently serves as the Interim Dean for the College of Health Sciences.

Dr. Stewart joined the faculty of the College of Health Sciences in 1991. She has served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs since 2005.

She received her BA in 1971 and her Master's degree in Audiology and Speech Sciences in 1972, both from Purdue University. In 1986, she came to the University of Kentucky and received her Doctorate of Education, focusing on Special Education Personnel Preparation, Learning and Behavior Disorders.

"I am gratified and proud to be the College of Health Sciences Interim Dean," said Dr. Stewart. "This college is my academic home. I worked as a clinical supervisor in the Communication Disorders Division for several years in the 1970's when it was still in the College of Education. After serving in clinical practice for about 15 years, completing my doctorate in learning disabilities in 1986, and serving on the faculty at Morehead State for several years, I returned to the Communication Disorders Division in 1991. I have been here since that time and have been in the college so long that I have had the opportunity to serve as the clinic director, division director, acting association dean, and finally, since 2005, as the associate dean for academic affairs. I have seen tremendous growth in this college over the years, and, I will see much more as we continue to move forward in the search for a permanent dean."

Dr. Phyllis Nash was named Acting Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the 2012-13 year. She will be in this position on a part-time basis. Dr. Nash has taught in nearly every college in the medical center and has extensive experience and skill as an administrator and leader in faculty and academic affairs.
