Externship Program
An Externship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is available for rising 3rd or 4th year Dental Students. Medical Malpractice must be provided by the candidate either through their Dental School or independently. A letter from the dean of their respective school should accompany their application.
Local housing is available at reasonable rates. Direct information regarding campus housing is available through the Housing’s website, http://www.uky.edu/Housing/graduate/guest_housing.html, or contact the Housing office directly by telephone (859) 257-3722, or fax (859) 323-1900. You may also contact the OMS Residency Coordinator by telephone (859) 257-2002 or by fax (859) 323-5858.
The minimum amount of time that an extern should spend at the University of Kentucky is 2 weeks. We encourage students to spend a month. Externs participate in all the activities of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service. This includes the outpatient clinic, operating room, and emergency room call. All extern activities are supervised by residents and attending faculty. The extern will also participate in the entire academic activities that are required of the residents. We limit participation to three externs at one time and considers applicants on a first come first served basis.
Interested students should send a letter of request, Dean's letter, evidence of malpractice insurance, and the attached application information to:
