Welcome to the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry!
Whether you are an undergraduate student about to apply for admission, a high school student looking at career options or a non-traditional student who is considering changing careers, our website will provide you with the information and connections you need to know about the dental profession and the admissions process. Some quick UKCD DMD facts:
On May 6, 2007, 52 new dentists graduated from the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry. 19 of these graduates entered postdoctoral study in general dentistry residences or specialty programs (oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, peridontics, pediatric dentistry and endodontics) and 33 went into private practice, the U.S. Public Health or military.
On August 1, 2007 the UK College of Dentistry welcomed the 57 members (35 men and 22 women) of the class of 2011 to the University of Kentucky. The class is composed of 41 Kentucky and 16 non-residents who come from 39 different colleges and universities. The college profile reveals a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (3.40 sciences GPA), an Academic Average on the DAT of 18.24 and a science average of 18.05. The college received applications from 1461 prospective students seeking admission for the fall of 2007. 174 students were interviewed in the process, with 95 being Kentucky residents. Interviews began on September 22, 2006 and the class was complete in early February, 2007.
Message for Non Kentucky Residents It is not easy to gain Kentucky residency in order to be eligible for in state tuition. If a student comes to Kentucky specifically for educational purposes, it is highly unlikely that residency will be granted. The UK College of Dentistry is not involved in the decision making process, so to learn more about residency and the appeal process, visit www.uky.edu/Registrar/residenc.htm
International Students The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry welcomes applications from qualified international students, however, students who have taken at least 30 hours of credit at a US institution are preferred. International students are considered out of state students and are not eligible for financial aid or in state tuition rates.
Each year several special events occur at the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry including Fall Open House and Saturday Morning Clinics for our prospective students, and our annual White Coat Ceremony to honor the first year class.
We begin to read applications for each new cycle in August and schedule interviews starting in late September and continuing throughout the fall. Plan to review our website carefully for information about UK and the application process, and contact our office anytime with questions or concerns. Good luck with your plans!
