Prospective DMD Students

Welcome to the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry!

Whether you are an undergraduate student about to apply for admission, a high school student looking at career options or a non-traditional student who is considering changing careers, our website will provide you with the information and connections you need to know about the dental profession and the admissions process.  Some quick UKCD DMD facts:
On May 6, 2012, 61 new dentists graduated from the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry.  25 of these graduates entered postdoctoral study in general dentistry residencies or specialty programs (oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, pediatric dentistry and endodontics); 9 entered a specialty or residency program in the military; 2 entered public health dentistry; and 25 went into private practice.
This year, we welcomed the 57 members (30 men and 27 women) of the class of 2016 to the University of Kentucky.  The class is composed of 38 Kentucky and 19 non-residents who come from 30 different colleges and universities. The college profile reveals a 3.45 cumulative grade point average (3.33 sciences GPA), an Academic Average on the DAT of 18.38 and a science average of 18.13.  The college received applications from over 1600 prospective students seeking admission for the fall of 2012.
Message for Non Kentucky Residents It is not easy to gain Kentucky residency in order to be eligible for in state tuition.  If a student comes to Kentucky specifically for educational purposes, it is highly unlikely that residency will be granted.  The UK College of Dentistry is not involved in the decision making process, so to learn more about residency and the appeal process, visit www.uky.edu/Registrar/residenc.htm

International Students The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry welcomes applications from qualified international students. Preference is given to students who have taken at least 30 hours of credit at a US institution.  International students are considered out of state students and are not eligible for financial aid or in state tuition rates.
Advanced Standing Program Unfortunately, our College of Dentistry does not have an advance standing program for foreign degree dentists. The structure of our College's unique dental curriculum and limits on our enrollment preclude us from offering a special program of advance standing. I encourage you to contact dental schools in larger cities for information about their accelerated programs for dentists who have credentials from institutions outside the United States and Canada.
Each year several special events occur at the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry including Fall Open House and Saturday Morning Clinics for our prospective students, and our annual White Coat Ceremony to honor the first year class.
We begin to read applications for each new cycle in July and schedule interviews starting in late August and continuing throughout the fall.  Plan to review our website carefully for information about UK and the application process, and contact our office anytime with questions or concerns.  Good luck with your plans!
