College Workstudy Employment Administered by the Financial Aid Office

The Federal Work-Study Program provides students with part-time employment in the fall and spring in community-service, research, and various other positions at the College.  The program is available to students who are eligible for need-based Financial Aid.  The program provides a range of worthwhile job opportunities for qualified students.  Students are paid a bi-weekly paycheck which is included as part of their financial aid package.  Entering student dentists who apply for a work/study position are closely monitored to ensure success in handling their academic responsibilities.

Full-time summer positions are also available during June and July.  A small percentage of summer earnings is calculated to be included as part of the Expected Family Contribution for the next academic year.

You are encouraged to apply for a work-study position if you are eligible for financial aid and demonstrate financial need as indicated by the FAFSA.

Students assigned a work/study position are awarded a maximum number of hours to be worked. The pay rate depends on your class as follows:

Year 1 earns $9.10/per hour                                   
Year 2 earns $9.35/per hour
Year 3 earns $9.60/per hour
Year 4 earns $9.85/per hour

Individuals interested in this program should watch for announcements of application deadlines in August for fall and spring employment and in April for the summer term.  You should also contact the Financial Aid Office in the College of Dentistry to see if you qualify for this Federal Work-Study Program.

New regulations require a back ground check before you can be hired for Federal Work-Study position with the University of Kentucky.  You will be required to authorize the request for the background check before you can be placed on payroll and begin working.
