Mobile Dental Clinic Program

mobile van

Since 1990, faculty in the Divisions of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health have routinely conducted school-based treatment clinics three days per week throughout the school year in Central and Eastern Kentucky. Each year during June and July, a summer program with dental students is also conducted in Floyd County (with the Floyd County Health Department). Dental screening, prevention and treatment services are provided. Dental students and dental residents participate in the treatment clinics.

Clinics are conducted at school sites that can be reached within reasonable driving time (1 1/2 hours). The University personnel travel from Lexington to the participating schools, usually departing about 6:30 AM and returning after school has been dismissed.

During the school year, the Eastern Kentucky Mobile Clinic is also used two days per week to conduct dental sealant outreach programs via a separate contract with the Kentucky Department for Public Health. The same basic approach is used, with travel by a college team to participating schools and back to Lexington on a daily basis.
