Health Services Research

This research seeks to identify and understand the oral health needs of Kentuckians.

Funding for Health Services Research covers the costs of dental care providers and assisting staff needed to provide oral care treatment and preventative services to children in underserved areas and for some uninsured adults.

Faculty Development for Dental Education in Rural Kentucky

Design, implement and evaluate a sustainable community based educational infrastructure
which increases the dental clinical services and educational workforce capacity of the
University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Increase access to care for underserved, underrepresented minority populations in rural Kentucky through educational and service programs provided by a new community dental infrastructure.

Appalachian Rural Dental Education Program

Continues implementation of the Appalachian Rural Dental Education Partnership (ARDEP). ARDEP goals are: 1) increase of opportunities for Kentuckians from the Appalachian counties to pursue dental education and practice as a career choice, 2) improve the numbers and distribution of dentists practicing in Kentucky’s Appalachian counties, 3) improve oral health literacy and demand for care, 4) develop financially sound oral health models to benefit the economic base of and societal improvements in Appalachia.
