Faculty and Staff Spotlight
Paula (DMD, Class of 1978) and Bob Caskey, CDT, are one of several couples working at the UKCD.
You could say the Caskeys know what they like. During their 42-year marriage, they’ve worked together nearly 30 years. Dr. Caskey says they “claimed” each other when she was 12 and Bob was 15, even though it would be four years before she was even allowed to date.
Both are natives of Eastern Kentucky, where they raised their two children and built their careers before returning to Lexington and the UK College of Dentistry. Dr. Caskey was inspired to study dentistry by her childhood dentist, Dr. Bill Greene. While she was in dental school, Bob became interested in dental materials and along with his job in the insurance industry, he attended Dental Laboratory School at LTI (now KCTC), worked in a dental laboratory, and earned his CDT. Nearly two years after she joined the faculty in the Restorative division, he was hired as a dental lab technician. They are very committed to the College, and Dr. Caskey was awarded the 2nd Annual Dean’s Award at the Fall Symposium in October 2013.
Outside of work, the Caskeys are sports fans. Bob especially enjoys golf and racquet ball. They were invited by an old friend to visit the Fantasy Baseball Camp in Florida, where they had the opportunity to meet Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra. There are wonderful photos in Dr. Caskey’s office of all of them together.
In addition to their son and daughter, the Caskeys have three grandsons and two “granddoggers.”
