Update in Oral Medicine, Oral Radiology and Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office

Course Description

This course presents principles of oral and maxillofacial radiology interpretation of the most common oral pathologies.  The course will put special attention in the chronological order of the radiology interpretation and construction of the differential diagnosis.  Basic principles of Cone Beam C.T. will also be included.  The main methodology of this course will be the “case-presentation format”.  In the afternoon, the course will review the most common oral medicine conditions that can present in a busy dental practice.  In addition, an overview of medical emergencies and guidelines in infection control will be included in the program.

Course Objectives

  • Distinguishing Entities: The dentist will be competent in distinguishing normal, variations of normal, and common pathologic entities apparent on x-ray films.
  • Interpret Radiographs: The dentist will be competent in interpreting radiographic findings of commons diseases such as odontogenic cyst, non-odontogenic cyst, benign lesions of the jaw, and malignant lesions of the jaw and temporo-mandibular joint changes.
  • Differential Diagnosis:  the dentist will be competent in differential diagnosis and treatment of common conditions of the oral mucosa.
  • Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office:  The dentist will understand the most different common potential medical emergencies that can occur in the dental office.
