Dennis Bruemmer, MD

This position will conduct research on the control of gene expression programs in vascular biology in the Cardiovascular Research Center. This research on molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis in diabetes and aging will include, but not be limited to, in vitro studies in tissue culture and in vivo work using mice. The applicant will be required to have experience and demonstrate proficiency in each of the following techniques: basic laboratory research skills including cell culture, buffer preparation, various molecular biology techniques listed below, data compilation, organization of detailed records, and small animal care and surgeries. The applicant must be highly motivated with experience in various genetic and molecular biology techniques including PCR, RT-PCR, real-time RT-PCR, transfection experiments, cloning procedures, reporter assays, and Western Blotting. The applicant should be able to conduct experiments independently, provide initial analysis of data, and implement new techniques required to address experimental questions. The applicant will benefit from a rapidly developing research field and various techniques currently available in the laboratory. The candidate will further assist in scientific project development and prepare scientific manuscripts for peer-review.
Applicants must have a Ph. D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field and a strong background in molecular biology techniques as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals. Please attach a CV plus a statement of career goals to your application.

Lisa Tannock, MD

A postdoctoral position is available starting on or about October 1 2009.  This position will conduct research examining the role of renal lipid accumulation in diabetic nephropathy. This work will include in vivo studies using mice, and in vitro analyses including cell culture work, metabolic characterization analyses, and microscopy. Previous experience in diabetes, renal disease, or matrix biology is desired, but the successful applicant will have a strong background in basic and animal models of diseases, data acquisition and analyses, and publications. The applicant is expected to work independently but also collaborate with other laboratory personnel. The applicant will be expected to take responsibility for day to day management of the project, data recording and analysis, and presentation and publication. The applicant will benefit from collaborative interactions within the PI and collaborator’s laboratories, and participating in a busy, productive laboratory.   
Applicants must have an MD or PhD degree in biology, nutrition, or related field, with previous experience as evidenced by publications in (English language) peer-reviewed journals. Please provide a CV and statement of career goals.

Zhenheng Guo, PhD

A Post Doctoral Scholar position will conduct research examining the role of iPLA2 linkage to Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease. This work will include in vivo studies using mice, and in vitro analyses including cell culture work, molecular biology, biochemical analyses, and microscopy. Previous experience in vascular smooth muscle biology, oxidative stress, and high performance liquid chromatography is desired, but the successful applicant will have a strong background in basic and animal models of diseases, data acquisition and analyses, and publications. The applicant is expected to work independently but also collaborate with other laboratory personnel. The applicant will be expected to take responsibility for day to day management of the project, data recording and analysis, and presentation and publication. The applicant will benefit from collaborative interactions within the PI and collaborator’s laboratories, and participating in a busy, productive laboratory.
Required Education
