About Research Day |
College Research Day was instituted in 2000 to
highlight and celebrate research and scholarly
activities of the faculty, predoctoral students and
residents in the College. It is held annually about
the 3rd Tuesday in February, and contributes to
preparing our research accomplishments for
presentation and the national American Dental
Education Association and American Association for
Dental Research meetings in the spring. The day was
initiated by a Plenary Session provided by Dr. Greg
Gerhardt, RCTF Professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology
and Director of the Center for Sensor Technology at
UK; “Translational Approaches to Treat Parkinson’s
Disease: From Microelectrode Technologies to the
Clinic”. This was followed by oral and poster
presentations. Each year, the Dental Hygiene Program
from Lexington Community College participates with
table clinics from 20 students. Awards are provided
to the top presentations from predoctoral students,
residents, and dental hygiene students at a banquet
in the Boone Center. Dr. M. John Novak presented
“Periodontal Disease, System Disease and the Aging
Process: Exploring the Link” at the dinner. CRD2003
was funded through support from the College of
Dentistry, Senior Vice President for Research, and
the Kentucky Chapter of the AADR. |
