About:
Teaching Clinical Chemistry at the University since 1980, Dr. Gorman obtained her Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences in 1996. Her research interests include lipid metabolism, oxidative stress mechanisms pertaining to lipids and glutathione, and the development of innovative teaching methods for clinical laboratory science students.

Scholarly Interest:
Dr. Gorman’s interest in lipid metabolism, diabetes and atherosclerosis is long-standing.  Due to administrative commitments her research interests have shifted more to patient safety, specimen procurement and CLS education research.

Educational Focus

Dr. Gorman teaches courses in clinical chemistry and a number of Graduate CLS courses for the CLS graduate program in hematology, transplantation technology, and reproductive laboratory sciences (core).    She is Full member of the Graduate School and participates in a number of MS and Doctoral committees within the Clinical Sciences Graduate program.

Administrative duties

Dr. Gorman is the Director of Graduate Studies for the Clinical Sciences Graduate program as well as Program Director for the CLS Undergraduate program at the University of Kentucky.  Her duties as DGS include student advisement and major advisor until students form an MS committee with a major advisor for their MS degree research/project.  As CLS Program Director, Dr. Gorman oversees the CLS professional program and the students admitted to that program.  Dr. Gorman also advises undergraduate students interested in Clinical Laboratory Science professional program in conjunction with the College of Health Science office of Student Services.
