American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP BOR)

Goals of the ASCP BOR:

  • Certify the competency of laboratory personnel
  • Set the standard for quality examination development and administration
  • Assist educational programs in the evaluation of their effectiveness
  • Perform research on careers within the medical laboratory and develop methods of competent evaluation
  • Provide study materials for examination preparation
  • Provide resources for career recruitment Maintain a registry of certified individuals

National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA)

The NCA certification process is designed to:

  • Provide a means for job applicants to inform prospective employers of their qualifications
  • Provide and measure a standard of knowledge desirable for medical laboratory personnel
  • Encourage professional clinicans to remain current with laboratory practices and to qualify for advanced positions
  • Formally recognize those individuals who fulfill the requirements for certification.
