Clinical rotations are arranged for students who are in schools of pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, nursing and allied health. Practicing clinicians who have been approved by the applicable university serve as preceptors for the students.   The Southeast Kentucky AHEC maintains ties with scores of different healthcare facilities and practices where students may go for hands-on experience; however, the greatest concentration of sites are in the towns of Hazard and Prestonsburg.  The ARH Regional Medical Center at  Hazard, the McDowell ARH at McDowell, the Lee County Vocational School in Beattyville, and the Southeast KY Community & Technical College  in Cumberland serve as host facilities for AHEC offices.  The two medical centers offer a number of rotations as well as support services to all healthcare students who are doing an accredited rotation in the region.

Experienced staff at the Southeast Kentucky AHEC also work to find low-cost temporary housing for students on rotation.  The AHEC clinical coordinator contacts students prior to their rotations to let them know something about the area where they'll be staying.  Maps, directions and a general orientation are provided.  Once the student has arrived, the Southeast Kentucky AHEC remains in close touch with the student and preceptor so that the best possible educational experience can be provided.  AHEC staff remain ready to help with any unexpected problem that a student may have while on rotation.  Although reasonable care is taken in recommending housing sites, Southeast Kentucky AHEC assumes no responsibility for the safety of the student and/or his/her property at the selected housing site.  All responsibility for the conditions of the housing is solely that of the landlord.
